Sydney, Australia — June 2, 2025 — Two Australian companies at the forefront of hydrogen-powered aviation have successfully registered a family of liquid hydrogen tanks that will pave the way for zero-emission flights across the country. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the development of sustainable aviation technology.
AMSL Aero and Stralis Aircraft have partnered with BOC Australia to register the tanks, known as “Dewar vessels,” which will be used to store and transport liquid hydrogen to fuel aircraft. These tanks work similarly to large-scale thermos flasks, maintaining a vacuum to insulate the super-cold liquid hydrogen required for the next generation of eco-friendly aircraft.
The registration of these Dewar vessels, the first of their kind to arrive in Australia, is crucial for the future of hydrogen-powered aviation. With a capacity of 30 kg per vessel, they will be used to transport liquid hydrogen from production plants directly to aircraft for refuelling, enabling zero-emission flights.
